Why Nature Became My Therapy

When Everything Felt Heavy

There was a season in my life when everything felt heavy. Not just in a passing way, but in a deeper sense where even simple things felt harder than they should. I was carrying more than I knew how to put into words, and it felt like I was just trying to get through each day without falling apart.

During that time, I didn’t really go looking for answers in a structured way. I just found myself needing to get outside. Away from noise, away from walls, away from everything that felt like it was closing in.

Driving Up to Cedar Breaks

One of those days, I ended up driving up to Cedar Breaks National Monument. I didn’t have a big plan. I just knew I needed to be somewhere different.

When I arrived, the weather and lighting were almost unreal.

"The sky had this soft, shifting glow, and the canyon itself felt alive with color."

The hoodoos and cliffs were lit in a way that didn’t feel random—it felt intentional, like the scene had been arranged just for that moment.

A Moment That Felt Like More Than Chance

I stood there with my camera, but for a while I wasn’t really thinking about photography. I was just taking it in.

And in that moment, something shifted in me. I can’t fully explain it in a technical or logical way, but it felt deeply personal. It felt like I was being reminded that I wasn’t alone in what I was carrying. That I was seen. That I was cared for.

I felt a sense of peace come over me that I hadn’t felt in a long time.

Finding Meaning in the Light

As the light moved across the canyon, I started to pick up my camera again. But everything felt different. I wasn’t just photographing a landscape—I was witnessing something that felt like it had meaning beyond the image itself.

"The colors, the silence, the scale of the place—it all seemed to reflect something I was trying to understand in my own life."

That even in hard seasons, there can still be beauty. Even in confusion, there can still be direction.

Why Nature Became My Therapy

Since that day, I’ve realized that nature has become more than just a place I visit to take photos. It’s become a place where I can reset. A place where my thoughts slow down enough for me to breathe again.

It doesn’t fix everything. But it gives me space. And sometimes, that space is exactly what I need to remember what matters, and to keep going.

Closing Thoughts

I don’t know if everyone experiences nature the same way I do, but for me, it has been one of the most grounding forces in my life. Especially in the hardest moments, it has a way of reminding me that there is still light, still purpose, and still something ahead worth moving toward.
